Sales Taxes for Orders Shipped to California, UK, and Europe

Sales Taxes for Orders Shipped to California, the United Kingdom, and European Countries

When shipping internationally or within certain states, customs fees, duties, and sales taxes may apply. These charges are determined by the destination country or state and are not included in Gearment's product pricing.

This article will guide you through sales tax requirements for orders shipped to:

  • California (USA)
  • The United Kingdom
  • European countries

General Information

Depending on the destination country, your buyers may be required to pay:

  • Import duties
  • Sales tax or VAT
  • Customs fees

These charges are assessed by the buyer's country’s customs authority and must be covered by the recipient. Customs checks may also cause delivery delays that are outside our control.

⚠️ As a seller, you are responsible for setting product prices that account for any potential taxes, duties, and fees.

Sales Tax for Specific Locations

Orders Shipped Within California

  • Sales tax rate: 8.75%
  • Applied to the order subtotal (excluding shipping fees)
  • This tax will be automatically charged on Gearment orders shipped within California

Orders Shipped to the UK or European Countries

If your buyer has already paid VAT/sales tax at checkout (common for Amazon/Etsy), you can avoid paying this tax again on Gearment by providing the correct tax information:

Required Information:
  • UK Orders: Tax Number & Order Tax Value (in USD)
  • EU Orders: IOSS Number & Order Value (in EUR)

Why This Is Important

If either piece of information is missing, customs may charge your customer additional tax during delivery.

How to Add IOSS or Tax Number

  1. Go to Order Details in your Gearment account
  2. Click Edit Address
  3. Enter: IOSS/Tax Number, Order Value or Tax Value

Orders to Other Countries

Mexico

Brazil

Tax number (CPF/CNPJ) must be entered in the Tax Number field when fulfilling the order

Tips
  • Always check tax regulations for your buyers' countries to avoid unexpected costs
  • Inform customers at checkout that customs or taxes may apply
  • For marketplaces like Amazon and Etsy, leverage provided tax information to avoid double taxation
